Breastfeeding Statistics

When I became pregnant I instantly started researching information on the pros and cons of breastfeeding. I had information from various articles, information from pediatricians, my ob/gyn, and other mothers. I came to the conclusion that it was definitely something that I should give a fair shot at. When my little one was born, I was instructed by the nurse how to start nursing my baby. At that very moment, it felt awkward to whip out my boob to tell you the truth. But when my baby latched on, it was a moment of bonding. I knew after everything that I had learned from all of my research how great this 'liquid gold' was for my newborn baby. I would like to share with you some of my research that I think every expecting mother should know.

Because I was able to nurse my baby, I feel like she is healthier, smarter and less prone to sickness than those babies who are formula fed. When I visited a Naturopathic Doctor she told me that if I can nurse her until she is two years of age that I would have the healthiest baby in my whole county not to mention that it would be extremely healthy for me too because I have a strong history of breast cancer in my family. Nursing is also a great way to loose that baby weight that you put on throughout your pregnancy. Naturally, your body stores fat to give you the ability to nurse after the baby because you burn an average of 800-1200 calories a day just by nursing. I think it only took 5 days after I delivered my baby to fit back into my size 3 jeans-which was really exciting!!! No matter how you look at it, the most benefit you really want to give is your baby-and I think that is what really matters, your baby is worth the try. Don't give up.
